Cottage Grove
Cottage Grove
About the Area
Cottage Grove is home to the last remaining covered railroad bridge this side of the Mississippi.
Location & Early History
Oregon has the largest collection of covered bridges in the West, and Cottage Grove has the most of any town in Lane County. These covered bridges were built by pioneers in the 1850s, and are made from wooden timbers with ‘houses’ constructed above to cover the wood from the elements.
Today, Cottage Grove hosts a spectacular Covered Bridge Tour available to visitors and residents. It also has a host of shopping and dining experiences, and summers that are full of unique events. The area has warm summers and mild winters, and the population is an eclectic collection of artists, musicians, inventors, and innovators from all over.
